Research environment

The research environment is critical to a successful research education experience. In order to cultivate a positive research environment we oultine three environmental issues surrounding candidature.

  1. Avoiding isolation: discusses factors which may affect students' feelings of isolation and recommends steps which might be taken to minimise or prevent their occurrence.
  2. Candidate and panel: considers factors at the departmental/ faculty level or above which may have an effect on student satisfaction with their doctoral experience as a whole.

  3. Intellectual climate: How can supervisors and their departments or faculties act to optimise the teaching of their disciplinary area in the University? Can benefits for both staff and students be derived from developing a more inclusive attitude to students and their potential to contribute to the department/ faculty's academic life?
